about

Sourced from front-line field recordings made at Zuccotti Park as well as at other affiliated marches and protests in 2011-2012, "Live at Occupy Wall St 2011-2012 (torso version)" captures unusual sonic phenomena such as "the people's microphone" and cooperative asynchronous performances which include marching rhythms out of sync due to distance or ongoing movement (Charles Ives might have been delighted) along with autonomous chants and the brave resistance to police oppression.

Chris DeLaurenti is a Baltimore-based phonographer. Since the 1990s he has challenged what Salome Voegelin calls "the myth of the invisible figure with a microphone" by making binaural, camera, and stereo microphone recordings that embrace the core traits of contemporary phonography: Affirming the presence of the recordist and welcoming multiple fidelities amid the embrace of errors, shifting perspectives, tatterdemalion forms, and documenting unusual and otherwise overlooked phenomena yoked to the visual. No voice is too small.
